ΔΗΜΟΣΙΟΓΡΑΦΟΣ ΜΑΡΙΑ ΚΑΡΧΙΛΑΚΗ, ΔΙΕΥΘΥΝΤΗΣ ΦΩΤΟΓΡΑΦΙΑΣ ΜΑΝΟΥΣΟΣ ΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ, ΜΟΝΤΑΖ ΚΥΡΗΝΑΙΟΣ ΠΑΠΑΔΗΜΑΤΟΣ This ceremony takes place in the Orthodox Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem in such a way that bewilders the soul of the Christians. On Easter Saturday, at noon, the Orthodox Patriarch, or any other Orthodox Archbishop, enters the Holy Sepulchre, recites special prayers and remains waiting. Sometimes the waiting is long, sometimes short. The crowd, in the darkened church, repeats continually with a loud voice: "Lord, have mercy." (Kyrie eleison). At a certain moment the Holy Light flashes from the depth of the Holy Sepulchre in a supernatural way, miraculously, and lights up the little lamp of olive oil put on the edge of it. The Patriarch (or the Archbishop), after having read some prayers, lights up the two clusters of 33 candles he is holding, and begins to distribute the Holy Light to the multitude of pilgrims, who receive it with great emotion, accompanied with the pealing of bells, acclamations, and an unbridled enthusiasm. |

Singing as a first singer for 55 years now, is one of the great masters and executors of byzantine music. He is considered one of the greatest byzantine singers with gifted emotional voice, following the traditional form and style of the Patriarchic church of Konstantinoupolis (Instabul). He has been invited to sing to orthodox churches all over Greece, Europe, United States and Middle East countries. He has also given many recitals of byzantine music around the world as a chorarch and as a solist with his own choir. With his voice ability, appart of byzantine music, he has also been a main solist to 5 oratoriums with orchestra and choir of 300 people. Today he is still singing in a cathedral church of Athens. For many friends and lovers of this music all around the world, he was and still is, "The Nightingale of Byzantine Music" |
